Red carpets are always known to showcase celebrities walking in elegant gowns with fishtail hems. The VMA carpet however, is one that is all about making a statement, and this year was no different. As expected, celebrities stepped onto the carpet in the most outrageous, head-turning sartorial looks that the VMAs have been notorious for.
From Miley Cyrus’s barely-there Versace ensemble to Vanessa Hugen’s 28 layers of jewellery, here are some of the most jaw dropping red carpet looks at the VMAs.
Vanessa Hudgens
Sticking to her staple bohemian style, the Broadway star stunned everyone at the carpet with a romantic plunging Naeem Khan gown, paired 10 bracelets, a handful of rings, layers of necklaces and couple of sparklers for her wavy coif- all amounting to layers of a whopping 28 individual pieces of jewellery.
Chrissy Teigen
Ah, the pelvage. Making up for apparent modesty, the Lip Sync Battle commentator arrived showing a lack of underwear in a dare-to-bear Marchesa dress that strategically showed off belly-high side splits.
FKA Twigs
Not someone who plays into the red carpet game, FKA Twigs is not to be underestimated. The “Two Weeks” singer floored everyone at the carpet, putting her fierce body front and centre in a sheer Atelier Versace dress. A perfect blend of boudoir and bondage, the singer took her look to the next level but keeping her jewellery at the minimum and keeping the attention on her stunning dress.
As the host for the night, the star arrived making sure all eyes were on her. Arriving in a barely-there Atelier Versace, which included suspenders and a chandelier-style skirt, she definitely made a few onlookers hide for cover just in case some of her body parts made an inadvertent appearance. However, she did prove that they need not worry as she danced her way down the carpet.
Taylor Swift
Hitting the carpet in a sequined crop top and pant ensemble by Ashish, the night’s big nominee and winner definitely missed the mark. We will cut the girl some slack though, she has been killing it on her 1989 World Tour, and probably didn’t have much time to go shopping for the show.
